Film Studies

Film Studies   ~  Better by Direction  ~
OCN stands for 'Open College Network', the national body which certifies that certain criteria have been met.  The NOCN awards credits for what you have achieved and these tie into a national framework, so that your credits can be transferred to other colleges and accumulated.

The following Film Study units offer opportunities to gain up to 15 credits from the following titles:

Film Journalism
     Review + Film based article for named publication with commentary to
     explain style, aims & objectives.

Auteur Project
   Research log + scripted presentation that defines the concept and
   applies it to a filmmaker, and an evaluation.

Storyboard
    Synopsis of generic film + 15 - 25 shots from a sequence of your film.  An
    evaluation of your finished storyboard.

Textual Analysis
    Close study of an extract from a film to explain how it makes meaning.

Genre and Popular Cinema
    Comparison of two films from different periods but the same genre.

Producers and Audiences
    Case Studies of funding, marketing and consumption of two
    films from different contexts.

Spectators and Emerging Cinema
    Essay on how a fair-ground attraction developed into a major industry.

British Cinema
    Essay discussing changing representations of national identities and
    ideologies.
